I'm a college student and this bag works great for me! Briefcase has plenty of room for notebooks, laptop, and all of the other necessary supplies.
This bag is handmade leather bag and you can use olive oil on this bag or any kind of leather conditioner.
Basically Briefcase has 3 pockets on inside. In each pocket Briefcase has a pocket attached the the siding of each pocket. The front and the back have zip up extra pocket there is also a place for pencils and pens.
Briefcase is removable and although I don't remove mine I carry the bag by the top handle quite a bit so I don't wrinkle my shoulders on my suit coats.
Briefcase does have a shoulder strap but the shoulder strap is used to carry the bag likes messinger bag. You can’t carry this bag like a backpack.
Briefcase’s as long as Briefcase looks in photo , perfect to put over Mand shoulder and hang about at hip level.
Mine had no smell, looks great and I got Briefcase at a reasonable price.

The straps open very much like a belt. There is a metal loop with a prong on the lower end of the belt attached to the bage. The strap attached to the top part of the bag fits into the loop, the prong goes through a hole in the strap, and the strap goes back into the lower part of the metal loop.
